Community Involvement
Getting outside of our four walls is a key part of church life here at New Hope. We don't just say we care...we show we care. Here are some ways we are effectively making a difference:
Community Clean-up Day.....This is a time, once a year, when the churches of Lompoc give up a Saturday to come together to clean-up our city. In 2011, 16 churches with approximately 360 volunteers used 115 gallons of paint for graffitti abatement, picked up 8 tons of trash, and pulled and cleaned up 3 1/2 tons of green waste. We are very proud to be a driving force in making this event possible.
Graffiti Eradication.....We partner with our city in covering graffiti on a rotational schedule with other community churches.
Food Pantry and Mobile Farmers Market........We provide food for those in need on an appointment basis. We distributed approximately 1,000 boxes of food to 385 families in 2010. On the fourth Tuesday of each month, the Santa Barbara County Foodbank sends a truck of fresh produce that we distribute in our parking lot beginning at 12 p.m. to those in need. We have seen exponential growth in this outreach ministry of NHCC. If you or someone you know is in need of food, you may call 819-0441 to make an appointment.
Backpack Distribution.....We love to show God's love to our community! As a part of the Lompoc Valley Ministerial Association, we came together with some of our local churches to purchase and distribute backpacks for under-resourced kids getting ready to go back to school. We had a fun day with fellow believers handing out backpacks, snack bags and providing our giant inflatables for this special event.
